Ok, so I still haven’t posted my videos of my adventures at #TIFF15 (Toronto International Film Festival 2015). So I’m going to try posting my #TIFF16 adventures as they happen. I’ll update this post when I have more stuff.
Day 1 – Wednesday, September 7, 2016
I thought the TIFF Soiree with Michael Fassbender would be Thursday night. But when I saw online that it was coming up later that day, I went downstairs and got a last minute ticket. (I live in the condo above TIFF Bell Lightbox).
I found a photo of him on the TV in my lobby. We are twinsies.
Before going to the gym, so that I would look buff for the party, I looked down from my balcony to see how the party set-up was going.
I only paid $301, so I had to sit in the balcony. (Yes, yes, the money goes to TIFF, which is a charity, as the girl at the ticket box office reminded me.) For $650 I could have been on the main floor. But I am making no money these days. So really, I shouldn’t have been going to this at all. But, then you wouldn’t be seeing this photo. So, you’re welcome.
The party was too loud, as you’ll see in my video below. But I did spot #fashionsanta. As you know, I have a habit of spotting him and making videos and taking photos of him in the background.
A woman, Sarah, came up to me as I was charging my iPhone at the party, and reminded me that she’s a fan of my appearances on Humble & Fred Radio. She came up to me at the Ritz a couple of years ago. Maybe that was a TIFF thing too. I went upstairs to get her an umbrella, so she could walk to Ritz again. In the elevator leaving the building, we met Darina. We talked about what celebs Darina looks like. Sarah said Barbara Streinsand. I said Jennifer Grey (pre-nose job). Darina’s phone was dying, whipped out my charger and found a plug in TIFF Bell Lightbox. Sarah took off. I chatted with Darina for a while. She told me about her appearances as an extra in TV shows. I asked her where she does her fashion journalism writing. One place is Soho House. Which I’ve applied to but haven’t heard back yet. Darina says I can “take advantage of (her)” and go as her guest. Yes!
And here’s the video I filmed on the first day. I was all excited because I filmed myself walking past Michael Fassbender on the red carpet, but the next day I noticed that I wasn’t recording. I guess it all happened so fast that I messed up pressing the buttons. I’ll be more on the ball for the rest of TIFF!
Vlog of Day 2 (September 8), featuring Chris Pratt, the show Suits, Paul Haggis and Bollywood filmmakers:
Vlog of Day 3 (September 9): I encounter a crowd screaming “Michael” and I try to figure out which Michael they’re talking about. Note: I finally posted Day 3 on December 23, with this Facebook status: “Right on time, here’s my vlog from Day 3 of TIFF (That’s right – way back on September 9). The day I heard people screaming for Michael Fassbender, and Teresa Asevedo showed up from Cleveland. I wanted to post a vlog every day during the Toronto International Film Festival. But I didn’t post one after Day 2, because I discovered that the things take too long to edit. But I did keep filming my adventures. And I’ve been editing the footage for 3 months, if only to teach myself that I should never vlog again. I’m not even gonna add my usual goofy music track. I probably won’t make my cute custom thumbnails. I’m just trying to cut the footage down to a manageable size and post it, so I can move on with my life. And I’ve finally uploaded Day 3. I could wait to let you know when all 11 vlogs are up. But, these days, you never know if there will be a tomorrow. So I’ll post them as I finish them. You can watch them as I post them. Or you can wait to binge watch like it’s Game of Thrones. Or you could not watch them at all. Which I wouldn’t blame you for. Because, unlike me, you probably have a romantic partner or a job or a hobby or friends or literally anything else to be doing. #TIFF16“
Here’s Day 4 of my vlog from #TIFF16 in September. (Only 7 more to post – Hopefully I’ll do that before #TIFF17!) In this one, I watch Pharrell Williams perform. Then I fall in love with, and have to apologize to, Olivia Cooke. #OliviaCooke #TheLimehouseGolem
In Day 5 of my #TIFF16 #vlog, filmed on Sept. 11, I interview Kristen Stewart‘s Director Olivier Assayas for Get Reel Movies, run a Bollywood press conference featuring Lion Movie actress Priyanka Bose, spot The JUNO Awards-nominee Francesco Yates, reunite with CBC bigwig Maya Kane, and try to find a mysterious party:
If you thought Day 5 ended badly, wait until you see how awful Day 6 (Sep. 12) was. I ordered the cheapest Subway sub possible – then didn’t even get it, got rejected from a walk-on role I bought on Charitybuzz for YouTube show MyLifeAsEva, looked for Ryan Gosling, found Aaron Eckhart and Miles Teller, and compared celebrity spottings with an unusual gentleman on the street:
Day 7 of my vlog from TIFF (Sep. 13). I watch Mark Wahlberg talk, almost selfies with Matt Damon and Casey Affleck, and do an interview on the red carpet for the Justin Timberlake & The Tennessee Kids movie.
On Day 9, I see Gerard Butler, Rob Reiner, Woody Harrelson, Jeffrey Donovan. I also get confronted by security and help park a giant truck. (filmed Thurs., Sep. 15, 2016) Celebrities featured: #GerardButler #RobReiner #WoodyHarrelson #JeffreyDonovan
Day 10 of my vlog from TIFF. Interviews with Chloë Grace Moretz, Gerard Barrett, Susannah Cahalan, Keith Richards & Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones, Paul Schrader, Matthew Wilder. (filmed Fri., Sep. 16, 2016)
#ChloeGraceMoretz #GerardBarrett #SusannahCahlan #CharlizeTheron#BrainOnFire (movie) #KeithRichards #RonnieWood #TheRollingStones#OleOleOle (movie) #PaulSchrader #MatthewWilder #DogEatDog (movie)
On Day 11, I interview Hayden Szeto, Haley Lu Richardson, Blake Jenner, James L. Brooks, Kelly Fremon Craig, Hailee Steinfeld, Kōji Shiraishi (Koji Shiraishi), Runa Endo, Elly Nanami. I show the celebrities cartoons I drew of them, from Oscar-winning Hailee, to 2 terrifying Japanese horror film girls. (filmed Sat., Sep. 17, 2016)
#TheEdgeOfSeventeen The Edge of Seventeen (movie)
#SadakoVsKayako Sadako vs. Kayako (movie)
Day 12 of my #vlog from TIFF. The final day of #TIFF16! I draw a cartoon for Nairobi filmmaker Mbithi Masya, interview my waitress (and actress) Teagan Vincze, cry after seeing La La Land – CA and wonder if Teagan Vincze is the Emma Stone to my Ryan Gosling. (filmed Sun., Sep. 18, 2016)
