I’m the voice of Ralphy in the video game Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut

As you’ll hear in the above video, this summer I voiced my first video game, reading hundreds of lines from my home studio (aka my closet). It took a long time and was tough on voice. But it’s very exciting to be a part of a video game, as video games can be as big or bigger than Hollywood movies now. The video game is Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut. According to Metacritic: “Wasteland 2 is the direct sequel to the first ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG. … It was groundbreaking, which is why IGN named it one of the top 25 PC games of all time, Computer Gaming World named it the Adventure Game of the year in 1988, and it was short-listed for inclusion in the Smithsonian Institutions current Art of the Computer Game exhibition.” So it sounds like I’m part of something pretty amazing.

The character I play is Ralphy Parker, who, as you can read in the Gamepedia description, is a rebellious Topekan teenager. Now, I haven’t played video games since I was a passive-aggressive Jewish teenager, when Star Castle and Centipede were in the variety store near my house. So I had to search YouTube to hear my voice in this game. I found a few videos people posted of them playing. Including this one, which has some funny commentary about my lines. I’m going to make the link to this video start at 32:47, where the player says: “I think those are all new voice lines, ’cause I don’t remember Ralphy talking before”, and then you can hear me as Ralphy. I’m glad the player finds my performance memorable!

(Side note: I tend to call myself Parker when I write myself into a screenplay. After Peter Parker, who is Spider-Man. Because I want to be Spider-Man. But anyway, it’s thus neat that this character’s last name is Parker. Coincidence, or fate? I’ll let you decide! Hint: It’s coincidence.)

Oh, and in case you can’t get enough of Ralphy or you’re a judge for a video game voice award show, I’ll start the link below at :48, where you can hear my Oscar-worthy drowning scene:
